FBI Agent Fired After Accusations of Stealing $1 Million in Cryptocurrency

Share

An FBI supervisory agent in Washington, D.C., has been accused of stealing around $1 million in cryptocurrency from digital accounts tied to a suspect in an overseas criminal investigation.

According to court documents obtained by the Wall Street Journal, Patrick Yaroch confessed last week to taking the money between 2024 and 2025. He allegedly made multiple withdrawals using passcodes gathered during the FBI's investigation.

The agent reportedly told a Department of Justice employee that he was frustrated with the FBI's inability to act against certain cryptocurrency accounts.

Yaroch has been fired from the agency, and his home was searched over the weekend. He is facing charges related to the interstate transfer of stolen goods.
