FBI Agent Steals $1 Million Worth of Cryptocurrency from Foreign Nationals
A shocking case of corruption has come to light within the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Patrick Stephen Yaroch, an FBI agent, turned himself in after allegedly stealing approximately $1 million worth of cryptocurrency from foreign nationals under investigation by the agency.
According to an FBI statement, Yaroch accessed FBI systems to obtain the keys needed to transfer funds from cryptocurrency accounts linked to a 'hostile state'. Between late 2024 and early 2025, he made around 10 transfers totalling approximately $1 million.
The agent discovered these accounts in November 2024 while conducting his investigative work. He became disillusioned when he realised that the FBI 'could not or would not take action against' such accounts, so he accessed the FBI's systems and found the keys needed to transfer the money to himself.
