FBI Cracks Down on Hamas Crypto Fundraising

The FBI has made a significant move in disrupting Hamas' use of cryptocurrency for fundraising. The agency seized over $560,000 in crypto tied to Hamas efforts, according to a September 1 announcement by the U.S. Department of Justice.

The operation targeted both digital assets and online infrastructure allegedly used by Hamas to solicit donations and communicate with supporters. Blockchain analytics played a crucial role in tracing the flow of funds, allowing investigators to follow transactions across multiple wallets, exchanges, and even cross-chain bridges.

The initial investigation began in March 2025, when authorities traced $200,000 in stablecoin donations to wallets controlled by Hamas’ military wing, the al-Qassam Brigades. Subsequent seizures in June and October 2025 expanded the network map, revealing consolidation wallets, money mules, and even connections to a Lebanon-based OTC broker.

Hamas reportedly adapted its tactics over time, using single-use donation wallets and bridging services to obscure transactions. However, blockchain’s immutable nature allowed investigators to revisit earlier transactions and uncover new links.
