FBI Cracks Down on Hamas Crypto Fundraising Efforts
The FBI has seized over $560,000 in cryptocurrency linked to Hamas fundraising efforts, marking a significant step in disrupting the group's use of digital assets for financing. The operation targeted both digital assets and online infrastructure allegedly used by Hamas to solicit donations and communicate with supporters.
Blockchain analytics played a key role in tracing the flow of funds, allowing investigators to follow transactions across multiple wallets, exchanges, and even cross-chain bridges. The initial investigation began in March 2025, when authorities traced $200,000 in stablecoin donations to wallets controlled by Hamas' military wing, the al-Qassam Brigades.
Hamas reportedly adapted its tactics over time, using single-use donation wallets and bridging services to obscure transactions. However, blockchain's immutable nature allowed investigators to revisit earlier transactions and uncover new links.
