FBI Investigates Potential Breakthrough in Coldcard Wallet Theft

The theft of funds from Coldcard wallets has been under investigation by authorities. A potential breakthrough may have occurred, as investigators may have identified a paid blockchain data account used in the first wave of thefts.

A total of 1,082 BTC was stolen during this initial attack, valued at approximately $69 million at Bitcoin's recent price near $64,000. The funds remain visible on associated addresses and are not frozen.

Galaxy Research's Alex Thorn stated that the first wave attacker's identity 'may be known to law enforcement,' but no FBI statement confirms this claim. Thorn's wording is cautious, as identifying a suspect does not necessarily mean charges will be filed or the funds recovered.
