FCA Opens Application Window for UK Crypto Businesses
The UK's Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has opened applications for crypto businesses seeking authorization under its new regulatory regime, set to take effect on October 25, 2027. Companies must apply by February 28, 2027, with the FCA expecting to decide on these applications before the new rules come into force.
The framework expands the FCA's oversight beyond anti-money laundering and financial promotion requirements, covering aspects like stablecoin issuance, crypto trading platforms, and market abuse. The regulator finalized its rules in June, outlining clear guidelines for firms operating in the UK.
According to Dominic Cashman, the FCA's director of authorization, 'The UK's new crypto regime will give consumers greater protections and firms a clear framework to operate in.'
