FCA Opens Gateway for Regulated Cryptoasset Activities in the UK

Share

The UK's Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has opened its gateway for firms to apply for regulated cryptoasset activities. This marks the first time that crypto firms operating in the UK will be brought into full FCA regulation, with clear standards covering consumer protection, safeguarding, market integrity, and financial resilience.

The application window is open until 28 February 2027, and the FCA expects to determine applications before the new regime commences on 25 October 2027. This will give firms assurance that they can continue providing cryptoasset services while their application is being assessed.

Firms can formally submit their applications for authorisation or a variation of existing permission through the FCA's Connect system. The final forms are now available, and applicants should ensure that their applications show how they are ready, willing, and organised to comply with the FCA's rules from the regime's go-live date.
