FCA Publishes Guidance on Regulating Crypto Market Ahead of New Regime
The UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has published guidance on regulating the crypto market. The new regime will require authorization for certain activities, including the issuance of stablecoins and operating trading platforms.
The FCA explained which types of crypto company activities will require authorization under the new regime. Applications for authorization will open on September 30, 2026, and the regime itself will take effect on October 25, 2027.
The guidance covers a range of activities, including trading platforms, deal execution, custody services, and staking. David Geale, executive director for consumers, payments, and competition at the FCA, said that understanding the new regime is necessary for companies' preparation for authorization.
