Fed Rate Decision Faces Off Against $6.3 Billion IBIT Options Expiry

The Federal Reserve's upcoming rate decision will be closely watched by Bitcoin traders as it coincides with a major options expiry event. On Wednesday, the Fed is set to release its policy statement at 2 p.m. ET, followed by Chair Jerome Powell's press conference and an updated Summary of Economic Projections.

The next day, Friday, marks the expiry of approximately 1.47 million options contracts tied to BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF. This concentration of positioning is significant, with over a third of the total open interest clustered between the $40 and $45 strikes.

The busiest IBIT strikes imply a range of around $70,900 to $79,700 for Bitcoin prices, based on a rough proportional mapping using Coin Metrics' benchmark price. A sustained move outside this range would suggest that macro-driven forces or spot demand have overwhelmed the expiry setup.
