Fed Rate Decision to Spark Cryptocurrency Price Volatility
The Federal Reserve is set to announce its rate decision at 2 PM ET on September 16, 2026. According to the CME FedWatch tool, there's a 92% probability of a 25 basis point increase, which would raise the target range from 3.50%-3.75% to 3.75%-4.00%. This move comes just a day after the Senate blocked the CLARITY Act.
Bitcoin (BTC) is currently trading near $75,903, down 1.44% over the past 24 hours. XRP (XRP) is at approximately $1.29, down 7.98%, while Ethereum (ETH) is valued at about $2,404, down 3.18%. Traders are expecting a rate hike to impact cryptocurrency prices once it's announced.
However, Standard Chartered has urged caution, suggesting that market expectations have inflated due to limited incoming data. Analysts John Davies and Steve Englander argue that maintaining the current rate is low-cost, and this view carries weight as Kevin Warsh himself cautioned against the echo chamber effect during the Jackson Hole Economic Symposium.
The dot plot, which announces each policymaker's expectations for interest rates in the coming years, will be updated today. If the median shifts upward by a full increase, it would signal a notable change rather than merely reinforcing existing expectations.
