Fidelity Custody Transfer Suspected in $297M Bitcoin Movement
Strategy, an investment company, made significant movements in its Bitcoin holdings on Tuesday, transferring 3,568 Bitcoin worth approximately $297 million. The transactions have sparked questions about whether Strategy was selling part of its massive Bitcoin stash.
An on-chain analysis suggests the movement may be related to a custody transfer within Fidelity's system, rather than an actual sale. Lookonchain flagged the transfers from addresses associated with Strategy, while Emmett Gallic, an analyst at Arkham Intelligence, identified the receiving addresses as Fidelity custody wallets.
Gallic's analysis indicates that the activity does not indicate a sale, and merely changes where Bitcoin is held without affecting the owner's position. This nuance matters for investors, who need to determine whether the coins changed hands or simply switched custody addresses.
