Financial Stocks Fall Amid Rising Interest Rates and Bitcoin Decline
Financial stocks declined on Wednesday afternoon, with the NYSE Financial Index falling 0.8% and the State Street Financial Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLF) dropping 0.4%. The Philadelphia Housing Index shed 1.9% and the State Street Real Estate Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLRE) lost 1.4%. Bitcoin's price also took a hit, falling 2% to $84,447.
The yield for 10-year US Treasuries jumped 15 basis points to 5.11%, adding to the market's downward pressure. BlackRock, a major investment firm, directed more money into large-cap stocks in the US and shifted some of its AI exposure from industry pioneers toward later adopters, according to an investment outlook cited by Bloomberg.
BlackRock shares fell 0.5% as a result. The decline in financial stocks was likely influenced by concerns about interest rates and economic growth. However, it's worth noting that the market is subject to fluctuations and can change quickly.
