Marathon Digital Holdings has launched a pioneering project in Finland to recycle heat from Bitcoin mining to warm an entire community. The pilot initiative, which began operations in May with a 2-megawatt data center, aims to reduce carbon emissions and operating costs for local residents.

The Satakunta region, home to 11,000 people, is now connected to the district heating system that utilizes heat generated by the data center. This innovative approach aligns with Marathon's sustainability goals and seeks to explore new revenue streams.

Marathon's chairman and CEO, Fred Thiel, emphasized the dual benefits of producing digital assets and heating homes. 'This pilot project in Finland is a critical step forward in our strategy to expand globally and innovate sustainably,' he said.
