Fiserv Deploys Stablecoin Banking Platform with Roughrider Coin

Fiserv has launched its digital-asset platform with financial-institution clients, marking a significant step towards stablecoin adoption in mainstream banking. The company's first production use case is Bank of North Dakota's dollar-backed Roughrider Coin, which plugs into the existing interbank network.

Roughrider Coin is a stablecoin that improves money movement across North Dakota's banking network. Fiserv says VersaBank serves as issuer, Fireblocks provides secure digital-asset and tokenization infrastructure, and transactions are processed on Solana.

The structure brings together several layers that banks normally have to assemble separately: issuance, blockchain settlement, wallet infrastructure, and integration with core financial systems. This is where stablecoin adoption is increasingly heading, as evidenced by Toss Bank's testing of Solana rails for overseas transfers and Visa's stablecoin treasury infrastructure.
