Fiserv Launches Digital Asset Platform with Solana-Powered Stablecoin
Fiserv, a Nasdaq-listed payments and financial technology provider, has launched its digital asset platform with financial institution clients. The platform, which runs on the Solana blockchain, marks a milestone for stablecoin-enabled banking and payments. The first live use case on the platform is the Roughrider Coin, a dollar-backed stablecoin created for the Bank of North Dakota.
Roughrider Coin is designed for interbank money movement, allowing more than 90 banks and credit unions in the state to participate. Every token is dollar-backed, and funds can be transferred between institutions within seconds. This launch lays the groundwork for further digital money services.
Fiserv provides issuance, reserve, custody, and settlement infrastructure, while VersaBank handles minting, burning, custody, and reserve assets. Sunil Sachdev, Fiserv's Head of Embedded Finance and Digital Assets, said the platform helps clients find new efficiencies while maintaining trust, security, and regulatory standards.
The platform also targets corporates, marketplaces, and fintechs, supporting stablecoin card issuance, cross-border payments, and programmable commerce, among other use cases. The Solana price has risen to $122.89, up 3.14% in the morning session.
