Fiserv's Stablecoin Platform Goes Live, Empowering 90 Banks with Fast Settlement
Fiserv, a company that processes roughly 90 billion transactions a year for 10,000 American financial institutions, has launched its digital asset platform, enabling 90 banks and credit unions in North Dakota to use the Roughrider Coin, the first real-money stablecoin to run on the platform, for interbank transfers in approximately 400 milliseconds. The settlement happens on the Solana blockchain, which handled over $650 billion in stablecoin transfers in February 2026.
The platform uses a four-party architecture, with Fiserv as the white-label infrastructure provider, VersaBank as the coin's issuer and custodian, and Fireblocks providing enterprise-grade security and tokenization. The Solana blockchain enables fast settlement due to its Proof of History combined with Proof of Stake consensus mechanism.
Fiserv's head of embedded finance and digital assets, Sunil Sachdev, said the launch proves that institutional stablecoin deployment can meet banking sector standards. Fiserv has described a broader set of use cases for the platform, including stablecoin card issuance, cross-border payments, and programmable commerce.
