Florida Gas Station Halt Bitcoin Scams with Over $100,000 Saved
A gas station in Seminole County, Florida is taking a proactive approach to preventing Bitcoin ATM scams. The Mobil gas station on Sanford Avenue near the Orlando Sanford Airport has saved customers over $100,000 by stopping fraudulent transactions.
According to Haroon Anwar, co-owner of the gas station, his employees have intervened in numerous cases where scammers are attempting to extract money from unsuspecting victims. In one recent incident, a scammer instructed a victim to deposit $15,000 into a Bitcoin machine, but only had $9,000 available.
Anwar described how his employees typically recognize when someone is being scammed, citing instances where victims stand at the machine for several minutes on the phone and with cash in hand. His advice to potential victims is simple: 'Don't fall for it. Call police and tell them that this is going on.'
