Florida Woman Loses $15,825 in Jury-Duty Scam Tied to Georgia Prisons

A Florida woman fell victim to a jury-duty scam that cost her $15,825. The scammers posed as law enforcement and threatened to arrest her unless she made Bitcoin payments at ATMs.

Detectives from Volusia County Sheriff's Office were able to track one of the crypto deposits through several wallets to an account tied to Annie Lee Ashley, 61, of East Dublin, Georgia.

Ashley was extradited and booked on a grand theft charge after being linked to the scam. She claimed she never received the money, citing that others had access to her phone.
