Forest City Scam Ring Dismantled, 335 Arrested

Share

A major online scam ring operating in Forest City has been dismantled by Johor police, resulting in 335 arrests and the seizure of significant amounts of equipment. The operation targeted two separate syndicates involved in fake cryptocurrency investments and love scams targeting victims overseas.

The first syndicate comprised 279 suspects who used platforms such as Telegram, WhatsApp, and TikTok to identify potential victims before luring them into bogus investment schemes. They promised monthly salaries ranging from RM2,500 to RM4,000 to their agents.

The second syndicate involved 56 suspects, suspected of impersonating law firms while offering fake investment and cryptocurrency schemes to victims abroad. Preliminary investigations found that some foreigners detained failed to produce valid travel documents.

Police have opened 23 investigation papers under various sections of the Penal Code and Immigration Act. Charges have been approved for 194 accused, with 159 to be charged today and 35 tomorrow at the Johor Baru Magistrate's Court.
