Former LASD Deputy Sentenced for Aiding Crypto Businessman's Scheme
A former Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department deputy has been sentenced to 21 months in federal prison for his role in aiding a cryptocurrency businessman's scheme. Eric Chase Saavedra, 42, was found guilty of conspiracy against rights and false subscription to a tax return.
Saavedra used his law enforcement position to access restricted databases and obtain personal information connected to individuals involved in disputes with Adam Iza, the crypto entrepreneur he worked with. He also helped Iza obtain court-authorized search warrants and location information linked to these individuals.
The investigation found that Saavedra received over $373,000 in unreported income from Iza and submitted a false tax return for 2021. The case has sparked debate in the crypto market, highlighting concerns about private security operations and potential financial crimes tied to cryptocurrency business.
