Fortitude Acquires New Data Center in Nebraska, Bolsters Zcash Mining Operations
Digital Currency Group (DCG) CEO Barry Silbert has announced a major milestone in his company's mining operations. Fortitude, DCG's controlled mining platform, has acquired a new 12.5 MW data center in Prosser, Nebraska for approximately $4.7 million.
This deal pushes Fortitude's total owned power portfolio beyond 60 MW and is part of the company's efforts to expand its industrial foundation for mining Zcash (ZEC).
Silbert has stated that he believes financial privacy is a fundamental right, and his next 'large asymmetric bet' in the crypto industry will be on cryptocurrencies with this feature.
The new data center is Fortitude's third facility in Nebraska, which allows the company to take advantage of low electricity costs. According to Silbert, deploying infrastructure within a single regional cluster gives miners several operational advantages, including lower production costs and control over the network's hash rate.
Fortitude's acquisition of the new data center is also part of its merger with publicly traded medical technology company HeartSciences (HSCS). The all-stock transaction will see Fortitude list as TUDE on Nasdaq, becoming the first publicly traded institutional Zcash mining platform in history.
