Fortitude Activates 12-Megawatt Nebraska Facility to Boost Zcash Mining Efficiency
Fortitude, a digital processing company backed by Digital Currency Group CEO Barry Silbert, has activated a new 12-megawatt facility in Grand Island, Nebraska. This represents the first infrastructure developed directly by the company to expand its operations.
The Grand Island plant boosts Fortitude's contracted power portfolio to over 60 megawatts distributed across four U.S. states. The facility operates at an estimated electricity rate of $0.045 per kilowatt-hour, reducing direct extraction costs from approximately $70 to around $40 per ZEC token.
Fortitude CEO Andrea Childs noted that activating the plant represents progress in the company's strategy to own and operate its own energy centers. This model provides cost discipline and operational flexibility to scale operations on its own commercial terms.
