TradFi Perpetuals Surge to $2B on Crypto Exchanges
Traditional financial assets, such as metals, oil, and equities, are gaining traction on cryptocurrency exchanges through perpetual contracts. According to CryptoQuant's report, open interest in these products has doubled since late May, reaching over $2 billion.
The surge allows crypto exchanges to compete more directly with traditional trading platforms by offering continuous exposure to traditional assets around the clock. Established exchanges like Binance, Bybit, and Gate are leading this expansion, controlling about 70% of the emerging derivatives segment.
While TradFi perpetuals remain small compared to crypto derivatives, representing only about 3% of the $65 billion held in cryptocurrency perpetual contracts, their growth indicates a shift towards continuous trading. Whether this trend continues depends on liquidity growth, regulatory access, and traders' preferences.
