French Crypto Investors Fall Victim to Violent Wrench Attack
Two French cryptocurrency investors were kidnapped and held captive for 52 hours in a violent attack that has raised concerns over 'wrench attacks,' a growing trend where criminals use physical violence to steal digital assets.
The victims, whose identities have not been disclosed, were allegedly subjected to severe physical abuse, including being beaten and burned, while their captors demanded access to their cryptocurrency wallets. The attackers ultimately forced the victims to transfer around $30,000 in cryptocurrency before law enforcement intervened.
A high-speed pursuit led to the arrest of several suspects, and six individuals were later convicted in connection with the kidnapping and extortion case.
