French Family Held Hostage Over €40,000 Crypto Transfer
A family in northern France's Pas-de-Calais region was held hostage by four suspects who forced them to make a €40,000 cryptocurrency transfer.
The incident occurred on September 19 at around nightfall in Vendin-le-Vieil. The suspects entered the home of a cryptocurrency worker and his family, holding them captive for several hours before fleeing.
The father, who works in the crypto sector, was assaulted during the ordeal, as were two of the children. The attackers used car keys to strike one child's face.
After leaving the scene, investigators have not stated whether the family was targeted specifically or chosen at random. However, they did confirm that the father was coerced into making a €40,000 cryptocurrency transfer, though it is unclear if the transaction was completed before the attackers fled.
