French Tax Data Breach Exposes 678,000 to Crypto Theft Risk

Share

A massive data breach in France has exposed the personal and financial records of nearly 678,000 people, sparking concerns about the safety of cryptocurrency holders.

The hack, which occurred in late June, compromised data tied to both individual and professional taxpayers, including names, birthdates, home addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, and tax income details.

Security researchers warn that this breach could be a goldmine for criminals, providing them with a list of wealthy targets in a country already plagued by violent crime against crypto owners.

The French Finance Minister confirmed the breach, which is currently under investigation. Chainalysis recorded 30 violent crypto attacks in France during the first half of 2026, totaling over $30 million stolen, putting this year on pace to surpass last year's record of $58 million.
