French Woman Under Investigation for Alleged Crypto Price Manipulation Linked to Dubai Property Purchases
A French woman, Svetlana A., has been placed under formal investigation for allegedly manipulating Verasity's VRA cryptocurrency to finance tens of millions of euros in Dubai property purchases.
According to Le Monde, investigators suspect that Svetlana A. and her British partner, Robert Hain, engaged in organized fraud through the manipulation of VRA's exchange rate, using the proceeds from this activity to fund their extensive real estate holdings in Dubai.
The alleged scheme centers around a 65-fold price increase in VRA during spring 2021, before it later collapsed. While French investigators have not publicly disclosed specific trades or transactions linked to the suspected scheme, they are examining whether any manipulation of VRA's exchange rate contributed to Svetlana A.'s large-scale Dubai property purchases.
The investigation also reveals a complex web of connections between Svetlana A., Robert Hain, and Verasity. Public patent records show that the pair collaborated on technology inventions related to Verasity, while corporate filings indicate that Svetlana A. was previously involved with Veraviews Limited, a company closely tied to Verasity's ecosystem.
