The G20 finance ministers and central bank governors have agreed to advance clearer regulatory pathways for cryptocurrencies and stablecoins, acknowledging their potential role in supporting economic growth.

In a statement released after a two-day meeting in Asheville, North Carolina, the group emphasized the importance of private-sector innovation while warning that regulators must safeguard financial stability as adoption increases.

The G20 has committed to establishing clearer pathways for responsible digital-asset innovation, considering cross-border opportunities and risks. This move is particularly significant for stablecoins, which are increasingly integrated with traditional finance and pose regulatory challenges individual countries cannot fully address independently.

Several major economies have already developed national frameworks for cryptocurrencies and stablecoins, including the European Union's Markets in Crypto-Assets framework and the United States' GENIUS Act. Japan has also implemented regulated frameworks for stablecoins and crypto exchanges. The challenge now is ensuring that these systems can interact seamlessly when digital assets move across borders.
