Gallego Warns Rushed CLARITY Act Vote Could Derail Crypto Bill Negotiations
Senator Ruben Gallego warned that rushing the CLARITY Act through a Senate vote could damage ongoing negotiations over the U.S. crypto market structure bill.
The Arizona Democrat made his comments at the SALT Wyoming Blockchain Symposium, urging the crypto industry to support continued talks instead of demanding an immediate floor action.
Gallego stated that a fast vote would result in a quick decision, but it may not be the desired outcome. He emphasized that negotiations are still ongoing and that the Senate needs to work together to find common ground on key issues such as stablecoin rewards and ethics provisions.
The CLARITY Act is facing a 60-vote procedural test on September 15, and supporters will need Democratic backing to overcome this hurdle. Gallego's committee support did not guarantee that he would vote for the bill without changes, highlighting the challenges ahead in finding a compromise.
