Garlinghouse Uses Gold Shuffle to Make Case for Blockchain-Based Asset Transfer
Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse is making the case for blockchain-based asset transfer by pointing to an $11 billion gold shuffle between central banks. The De Nederlandsche Bank recently relocated about 86 tonnes of gold from North America to London, but most of it didn't physically move across the Atlantic.
The bank sold bars held in New York and repurchased equivalent gold in London, citing better access to a deeper physical gold market. Garlinghouse compared this process to Germany's earlier repatriation program, which took several years to complete.
Giving his argument a direct connection to the XRP Ledger, Garlinghouse noted that tokenized real-world assets are already trading on the network. Tokenized gold on XRPL has exceeded $1 million in cumulative trading volume and provides a clear comparison with traditional finance's asset transfer process.
