Gate.io's Metals Volume Surges to 54%, Fuels Macro Hedge Thesis
The crypto exchange Gate.io has seen a significant surge in traditional finance (TradFi) volume this September, with metals leading the charge. According to CryptoQuant analyst MorenoDV (@MorenoDV_), cumulative metals volume on the exchange has reached $18.3 billion month-to-date, accounting for an impressive 54% of all TradFi volume.
This dominance is not a one-off anomaly, but rather a structural preference that signals a pickup in activity after the quieter summer period. The chart showing Gate.io's TradFi volume from February to September highlights a textbook U-shaped recovery, with metals maintaining their 54% share consistently throughout the entire period.
The reason behind this trend is not coincidental. Gold and silver traditionally attract capital during periods of macro uncertainty, such as currency debasement concerns, geopolitical tension, and real-rate volatility. This structural allocation is evident in Gate.io's TradFi desk, where metals have held their 54% share even during the summer trough.
The $1.6 billion daily volume threshold represents a key level that determines whether this recovery graduates to a full regime shift. If sustained closes above this line occur, it would carry two implications: volume regime confirmation and liquidity signal for metals traders.
