Gates Pushes for Global AI Framework to Mitigate Job Loss and Cyber Risks
Bill Gates has proposed an international framework to regulate the riskiest uses of AI, citing concerns that individual governments and companies are unable to handle increasingly sophisticated models on their own.
Gates believes that by working together, nations can establish common regulations for AI development, similar to those in place for aviation safety and nuclear inspection. He hopes to discuss this idea with Chinese President Xi Jinping during his upcoming visit to China in November.
Gates' proposal goes beyond security concerns, as he also warns that AI may replace jobs more quickly than previous technological advancements. To mitigate this, he suggests implementing stronger economic safety nets, taxes on AI-driven labor replacement, and reserving some jobs for humans.
