Gemini Swaps Node Software Ahead of Zcash Block Time Cut
Gemini, the US-based cryptocurrency exchange, has upgraded its node operating software to 'Zakura' in preparation for Zcash's upcoming NU7 upgrade. The new software is expected to improve synchronization speed and reduce downtime.
Zakura replaced Gemini's previous node software, Zebra, which required nearly a full day to sync with the Zcash network's latest block. In contrast, Zakura took approximately 6 hours to sync during actual deployment, while test results showed that it could be as fast as 4 hours and 20 minutes.
The upgrade is seen as preparation for NU7, which will shorten the network's block generation interval from 75 seconds to 25 seconds. This change will require nodes to receive and validate blocks three times more frequently than they do today.
Gemini's software switch is a proactive move to address the increased load that comes with shorter block times. The exchange has a vested interest in Zcash, as its founders are also involved in the development of the cryptocurrency through their investment firm.
