Georgia Prison Scam Ring Targets Victims with Fake Jury Duty Calls

A woman has been arrested in connection with what authorities describe as a Georgia prison scam ring targeting victims across the country.

According to Sheriff Mike Chitwood, investigators were able to recover about $12,000 of the money paid by a DeLand woman who lost $15,000 in Bitcoin.

The scheme involves inmates at Calhoun State prison and Wheeler Correctional Institution using phones and iPads to contact potential victims, falsely claiming they have missed jury duty and owe money.

Chitwood advises that if you receive such a call, hang up immediately, as police will not contact you this way for something like this.
