Georgia Seizes Stolen Crypto, Returns Funds to Elderly Victims
Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr announced that his White Collar and Cyber Crime Unit has successfully seized and returned cryptocurrency to elderly fraud victims in Oconee County.
The victims were targeted by a scammer who pretended to be from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and instructed them to withdraw funds from their bank and deposit it into a crypto kiosk.
Carr praised the work of his unit, saying they are 'on the forefront of this fight, disrupting crypto scams, tracing transactions and recovering stolen funds.'
The Attorney General's office worked with the Oconee County Sheriff's Office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) to trace the stolen crypto and return it to the victims.
