Giancarlo Says Crypto Innovation Will Continue Without Clarity Act
Former CFTC Chairman Chris Giancarlo recently weighed in on the current state of cryptocurrency regulation, specifically regarding the delayed passage of the CLARITY Act. In an interview with Scott Melker, Giancarlo expressed his views on how the crypto industry should approach this legislation.
Giancarlo emphasized that despite the bill's delay, innovation will continue to progress regardless of whether the Senate passes the CLARITY Act or not. He urged the industry to stop treating it as a 'do-or-die' proposition, stating that the shift towards blockchain networks is inevitable.
'Perhaps it's time to stop making such a big deal out of Clarity,' Giancarlo said, drawing parallels with the internet's growth over three decades without an authorizing statute. The remarks come ahead of the Senate's August recess deadline for passage, which seems increasingly unlikely given Senate Majority Leader John Thune's comments.
Giancarlo also touched on the ethics dispute surrounding President Donald Trump's crypto dealings, describing it as 'a little bit of an own goal' by the White House. He noted that some Senate Democrats might be hesitant to back the bill due to pressure from their party's left flank, particularly Senator Elizabeth Warren.
