Glamsterdam Activation Set for Oct 6: Ethereum's Path to Increased Scalability
Ethereum's major scaling package, Glamsterdam, is set to be activated on Sepolia testnet at epoch 353,024 and slot 11,296,768 on October 6 at 13:53:36 UTC.
The upgrade combines changes from Amsterdam on Ethereum's execution layer and Gloas on the consensus layer. It introduces enshrined proposer-builder separation through EIP-7732, which moves the relationship between block proposers and specialized block builders directly into Ethereum's protocol.
Glamsterdam also includes another major component through EIP-7928, creating block-level access lists that record which accounts and storage locations a block uses. This allows clients to read state from disk and process parts of transaction validation in parallel, making state-root calculations more efficient.
Node operators on Sepolia need compatible versions of both their execution and consensus software before activation. Ordinary ETH holders and Ethereum mainnet users do not need to take action for the Sepolia upgrade.
