Glamsterdam Upgrade Triggers Warning for Fixed Gas Limit Tools on Ethereum
The Ethereum Foundation has issued a warning to developers about the upcoming upgrade 'Glamsterdam', which may cause problems for certain wallets, indexers, and gas estimation tools that treat the gas limit as a fixed value.
As part of the upgrade, changes will be made to the gas system that are incompatible with some applications, requiring updates before the production-equivalent fork on August 20, 2026. A new public testnet called 'Platåberget' has been launched for validation and testing.
The implementation timeline for Glamsterdam has been pushed back from the first half of 2026 to the fourth quarter, which may have knock-on effects on the next upgrade, 'Hegotá', targeted for 2027. Researcher Toni Wahrstätter stated that 66 proposals are under consideration for Hegotá, with a plan to narrow down candidates within two weeks.
