Global Stablecoin Regulations Converge Under Tightened Oversight
The global regulatory landscape for stablecoins is converging, according to a report from WalletConnect. The trend indicates that stablecoins are being formally recognized, regulations are becoming more transparent, and stricter requirements are emerging around reserves, issuance, and compliance.
In the US, EU, Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea, and Japan, requirements such as full reserves, redemption rights, and AML compliance are becoming universal standards. This shift suggests that stablecoins are transitioning from a 'crypto' narrative to a tightly regulated and secure financial infrastructure.
The report highlights that compliance does not necessarily mean losing self-custody. USDC and EURC serve as examples of stablecoins where users retain full control over their assets, while issuers can freeze or block specific transactions when legally required for security purposes.
