Gnosis Chain Takes First Step Towards Seamless Interchain Composability
Gnosis Chain has made the first move towards the Ethereum Economic Zone (EEZ) vision, which aims to provide synchronous composability for Ethereum's ecosystem. The EEZ is a joint effort between Gnosis and ZisK, funded by the Ethereum Foundation, that would allow contracts on different chains to interact seamlessly without bridging.
The proposal, known as GIP-153, was put to vote in the Gnosis community earlier this week, with 98% of voters currently supporting it. If passed, Gnosis Chain will transition directly onto Ethereum as a ZK-proven EEZ rollup, aligning with the EEZ's strategic direction.
This transition would not involve migrating addresses or balances to a new chain; instead, Gnosis Chain's validators would be sunsetted in favor of Ethereum's, and GnosisDAO's treasury-funded staking subsidy would end. A fee-capture model tied to network usage would replace it.
The rollout is expected to be phased, with the first deployment aiming for December 2026. This would unlock around 80% of the synchronous-composability feature for 40-50% of the total engineering effort. The full release would be completed next year.
