Gold Mining Stocks Shine as Gold Prices Hit One-Week High
US-listed gold mining company stocks rose in pre-market trading on September 18, following an upward trend in gold prices. Spot gold (XAU=) rose 0.8% to $4,377.32 per ounce, poised for a 1% gain this week.
The increase in gold prices is attributed to falling oil prices and investors' concerns over the Middle East conflict. This has led to a surge in demand for safe-haven assets like gold.
Leading mining companies Newmont (NEM.N) and Barrick Gold (ABX.TO, B.N) rose 1.2% and 1.4%, respectively. South African mining stocks also saw gains, with Gold Fields (GFI.N), Harmony Gold (HMY.N), AngloGold Ashanti (AU.N), and Sibanye-Stillwater (SBSW.N) rising between 1% and 3.2%. Canadian mining companies Agnico Eagle Mines (AEM.TO, AEM.N) and Kinross Gold (K.TO, KGC.N) rose 1.5% and 1.8%, respectively.
While the rise in gold prices is a positive indicator for gold mining stocks, it's essential to note that this market trend may not continue indefinitely. Investors should exercise caution when making investment decisions based on short-term price movements.
