Google Invests $15 Billion in Texas Data Center Amid Bitcoin Mining Boom
Google is backing a massive $15 billion financing package for an Anthropic data center in Texas, with the tech giant set to receive a 20% equity stake in the project.
The hub, located in Hubbard, Texas, will include a natural gas power plant capable of generating 1.6 gigawatts of electricity, reducing reliance on the local grid.
As part of the deal, Google has agreed to guarantee billions of dollars in lease and power payment obligations if Anthropic fails to meet them.
The financing package is being led by Morgan Stanley, with a $14 billion bridge loan and a revolving credit facility also included.
