Grayscale Advances Zcash ETF as DCG Considers $110 Million Token Purchase
Grayscale is moving closer to launching a Zcash exchange-traded fund (ETF) after filing an amendment with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). The proposal, if approved, would rename the existing Zcash Trust and list shares on the New York Stock Exchange's Arca platform under the ticker symbol ZCSH.
Meanwhile, Digital Currency Group (DCG) is considering a significant investment in Zcash through the trust. DCG International Investments Ltd. is discussing purchasing approximately 200,000 ZEC tokens at current prices, which would approach $110 million. However, these discussions remain non-binding and could lead to a smaller purchase or no investment at all.
The potential ETF launch and DCG's investment plans could significantly increase institutional access and attention for Zcash. Grayscale has also disclosed details about the June Orchard vulnerability and the Ironwood upgrade, which retired the shielded pool and added protections against counterfeit tokens. The upgrade is expected to enhance the overall security of the Zcash network.
