Grayscale Dogecoin Trust Expands Custody and Creation Flexibility
Grayscale Dogecoin Trust ETF Accredited Investor (GDOG) has announced significant updates to its custody and share creation processes. The trust, which provides investors with exposure to Dogecoin through listed shares on NYSE Arca, has expanded its operational flexibility by amending participant agreements with Macquarie Capital (USA) Inc. and Virtu Americas LLC. This change allows for in-kind creations and redemptions of shares, complementing the existing cash-based process. The goal is to enhance the arbitrage mechanism in the ETF’s primary market and offer more options to authorized participants.
In a separate but related move, the trust added Anchorage Digital Bank N.A. as an additional DOGE custodian under an amended custody services agreement, effective September 29, 2026. This diversification of custody aims to manage risk as the trust grows, though the allocation of DOGE to Anchorage and the extent of insurance coverage remain undetermined. Anchorage Digital will also handle blockchain fork events, including temporary service suspensions and protocol support decisions, adding another layer of operational resilience.
The updated framework enables Grayscale Securities, LLC, and other authorized participants to use an in-kind creation and redemption process, altering the trust’s operational setup without changing its listing or basic structure. This shift reflects a strategic response to the trust’s evolving scale and market demands. The trust continues to operate within the broader cryptocurrency ETF and ETP landscape, relying on institutional custodians and liquidity providers to support its primary-market activities.
