Grayscale Downplays Impact of Fed Rate Hike on Crypto Markets
Grayscale's Head of Research Zach Pandl believes that the recent Federal Reserve rate hike will have a limited impact on the crypto market. The Fed increased its target range to 3.75% to 4%, but according to Pandl, this is more of a mid-cycle adjustment rather than a significant shift in policy direction.
Pandl draws a parallel with March 1997, when the Greenspan Fed delivered a similar hike, and the Nasdaq bull market continued unaffected. He expects one or two additional hikes possible in 2026 to have a similarly limited effect on capital allocation into digital assets.
However, not all corners of crypto are equally exposed to rate policy. Pandl notes that stablecoin issuers like Circle and Tether will earn higher revenue as cash rates rise, since their reserves sit in short-term Treasuries and money market instruments. Additionally, tokenized bonds and money markets may pull more capital on-chain as they become more attractive relative to holding cash off-chain.
Grayscale's institutional stance remains intact, with Pandl treating the rate hike as background noise rather than a reason to revise the bottom call. He believes that Bitcoin's roughly $58,000 low from late June marked the bottom of the current cycle, and he also flags Zcash as a separate thesis built around the privacy layer Bitcoin lacks.
