Grayscale Mini Trust Lures Investors with Low-Cost Ethereum Exposure
The Grayscale Ethereum Mini Trust has been gaining traction in the market, attracting investors with its low expense ratio of 0.15%. This is significantly lower than BlackRock's ETHA, which charges a 0.25% fee. The price gap between these two funds is substantial, and it's no wonder that $1.75 billion flowed into spot Ethereum ETFs in August 2026.
The Mini Trust has been particularly successful, pulling in $225.8 million on August 27 alone. While BlackRock's ETHA dominates the market with $8.69 billion in assets, the lower cost of the Mini Trust provides a structural advantage for retail participants. In fact, the fund has already drawn capital away from the expensive legacy trust, Grayscale Ethereum Trust (ETHE), which carries a 2.50% annual fee.
One reason investors are choosing the Mini Trust is its ability to minimize costs without requiring technical expertise. The fund allows users to bypass the complexities of direct ownership and staking, providing regulated exposure through a brokerage account. While BlackRock's ETHB provides monthly income by staking 70% to 95% of its assets, the Mini Trust focuses on minimizing the cost of ownership.
The Mini Trust has outperformed the category average in August 2026, returning 33.2%. However, investors must also consider the risk of extreme volatility and slashing if they choose staking-enabled products like ETHB. As the market continues to rotate between these products, it's clear that investors are prioritizing low maintenance costs.
