Grayscale Renames Bitcoin Miners ETF to Focus on AI Computing Infrastructure
Grayscale Investments has revamped its Grayscale Bitcoin Miners ETF (MNRS) to target the growth of the artificial intelligence sector. The rebranded fund, now known as the Grayscale AI Compute ETF (GCPU), aims to provide exposure to companies involved in computing infrastructure.
The updated fund tracks the Indxx High Performance Computing Index, which includes companies that purchase data centers, supply electricity, or expand computing power for AI models. Up to 50% of the GCPU portfolio may consist of companies related to artificial intelligence, cloud services, graphics processing units (GPUs), and AI hosting solutions.
Grayscale emphasized that the fund will not directly own digital assets and will not mirror the performance of any single cryptocurrency. The company cites a shortage of infrastructure for handling growing AI workloads as the reason for the rebranding, noting that building new data centers can take up to five years and capital expenditures could exceed $1 trillion per year.
According to Zach Pandl, head of research at Grayscale, the development of artificial intelligence is increasing interest in protecting personal and financial data. This trend may lead investors to focus on privacy coins like Zcash.
