Grayscale Sees AI Cryptocurrencies as Future Market Leaders
Grayscale has identified AI-based cryptocurrencies as a standout segment in the crypto market, with significant investor interest and strong performance. In September, the blockchain infrastructure sector for artificial intelligence, valued at around $15 billion, outperformed the broader crypto market by 30 percentage points. Zach Pandl, head of research at Grayscale, attributed this growth to the development of the software agent economy, where software can perform tasks and conduct transactions on behalf of users.
The AI blockchain sector remains the smallest among six cryptocurrency sectors but has shown remarkable growth. Grayscale predicts that one or more major leaders may emerge in this sector over the next five years. The firm believes that public blockchains can complement AI development, offering use cases such as payments for agents, digital identification, verifiable records, and private computations.
Grayscale highlighted several projects with strong growth in September, including NEAR, Venice, World, and Bittensor. NEAR saw an 183% increase, Venice's VVV token gained 70%, World's WLD rose by 47%, and Bittensor's TAO increased by 37%. These projects address various tasks, from automated commerce to verifying human actions and providing private access to AI models.
The Grayscale Decentralized AI Fund includes NEAR and Bittensor, along with Render and Filecoin. The fund focuses on solving practical problems arising from software-independent resource purchases and work coordination. However, the operational risks of AI agents accessing financial resources were highlighted, as demonstrated by experiments using Openclaw, where credential leaks and financial losses occurred.
