Grayscale Sees Shift in Bitcoin Market Dynamics as Fed Policy Takes Center Stage

Grayscale, a prominent asset manager, has weighed in on the current state of Bitcoin's market, suggesting that its historic four-year cycle may not be as influential as previously thought. According to Zach Pandl, Grayscale's head of research, the Federal Reserve's policy and economic growth have become more important factors in determining demand for Bitcoin.

Historically, Bitcoin has followed a boom-and-bust pattern driven by supply reductions from halvings, with bear markets typically reaching their lowest point about one year after a cycle peak and roughly two and a half years after a halving. However, Grayscale believes that this framework is no longer as relevant due to the increasing influence of institutional funds, listed investment products, and changing monetary conditions.

Grayscale's analysis suggests that if the Fed avoids rate hikes and U.S. economic growth holds up well, Bitcoin's price may have already bottomed. This outlook depends on the resilience of the U.S. economy, as a renewed rise in interest rates or a sharp slowdown in growth could place fresh pressure on risk assets, including Bitcoin.

Pandl noted that while the four-year cycle view predicts lower lows for Bitcoin's price, the current downturn has unfolded alongside tighter Federal Reserve policy expectations and an increase in inflation-adjusted yields. This has led Grayscale to favor a macroeconomic framework that treats Bitcoin more like other major asset classes.
