Grayscale Warns Against Bitcoin Timing Missed Days Hurt Returns
Grayscale Investments, the world’s largest digital asset manager, has argued that timing the Bitcoin (BTC) market is often a losing strategy. In a recent report titled “BTC’s Hidden Risk: The ‘Out-of-Market’ Opportunity,’” the company highlighted that multi-year returns for Bitcoin are heavily influenced by a few high-performance days.
According to Grayscale, Bitcoin delivered a 225% return on investment (ROI) over the past three years, significantly outperforming the Nasdaq’s 109% return. However, most of these gains came from just a handful of days. Removing the top 5 trading days reduced Bitcoin’s returns to 95%, while removing the top 10 days dropped returns to 27%. Excluding the top 15 days resulted in an 11% loss.
Grayscale emphasized that these high-return days are unpredictable, making consistent long-term exposure crucial for assets like Bitcoin. The company also noted that Bitcoin is currently facing resistance between $84,000 and $87,000, with additional hurdles at $88,000-$89,000. At the time of writing, Bitcoin was trading at $85,821 after pulling back from the $86,000 mark.
In its conclusion, Grayscale reiterated that long-term investment is the best strategy for Bitcoin, given its potential for massive price swings. The firm warned that missing out on the most profitable days can significantly impact overall yields, reinforcing the importance of a long-term investment approach.
